It started off quite glum, feeling quite unsettled about my job - I then get a promotion and suddenly...BAM! I'm the manager and photographer of a family photography studio. Hurray! More money and I get to do the job I love - but this meant no time to breathe.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >I managed two photo shoots at the beginning of the year and the last shoot I did as Nitemare Photography was in March (11). Ever since I felt so overwhelmed with work that I couldn't physically edit my own images within reasonable time so I just stopped doing it all together.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; " ></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; " ><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); ">
<br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >Recently though, I have realised that there is a gap in my life - I had become a recluse. The one thing I adored about the photography I did was the weird and wonderful people and places I got to work with. The concepts were always close to my heart and the end result was always edited with full passion. I'm not really a seek to be social person, I have my friends and my lovely house with my boyfriend, cat and chinchilla - and I don't really like to go out on nights out. So photo shoots for me filled in that gap, kept me sane.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; " ></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; " >
<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >So yesterday at work I just had an idea - I needed to get out, do a shoot that had no strings attached. No high expectations, no magazines on my back wanting free work done quickly, no other 3rd party to please - just me and a friend doing something creative. So I messaged a good friend and model of mine, Laydee Layton. We have worked on many projects together, I've photographed her quite a lot in the studio and on location at events. She has this beautiful body and amazing hair, shes a real natural beauty so I knew she was the best candiate for the job.</span></div><div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >My concept was 1970s trash cinema. I adore films such as Death Proof, Machette and Zombie Land and many more by the Likes of Tarantino. I also recently watched a lot of Freaks & Geeks which is a TV show based in the 70's. There is an appeal to the vintage 70s look that these films have - th</span></div><div><div></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >e atmosphere, the clothes, the attitude....We have a poster book with trash cinema posters in them which I also flick through. I also collect old film cameras and have 2 1970s 35mm's. They naturally give off this amazing messed up vintage look that I didn't even photoshop, it just happened!</span></div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span><div></div></div><div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTyF5NDYpGjZ5f1elZcDXmbdm0inYDRcZCo-oK63luYm3dj5IizhlW3I20CLPbovfb5aq6sNzhzkn8L6cL_XxqOB8h8MmQYpu0TiKNVoatx0SLy9jzcBb5d09dAvWxcNH_Nr0hLWNchTc/s320/10530009.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644202140028215330" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 212px; " /><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >I emailed Kerri yesterday afternoon with these main ideas - 1970s sexy femme fatal meets Zombie. I was checking my email and Facebook every 5 minutes hoping she would reply quickly and say yes! At 8pm I get a phone call - it's Kerri and she is over the moon and loves the concept and hell yes she wanted to do it! So we chatted and assured we had the concept down, clothing, make up - everything. This is the quickest i've ever organized a shoot and you know what - it was perfect for me! Like I said, no high expectations from anyone - just some fun with a friend.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >So I picked her up after work around 8pm and we made our way to the local farm land next to my house. We were against time and it was getting dark. It had been raining all day and stopped just a few hours before we began shooting - phew! It did mean we had this beautiful mist in the background creating this amazing desolate feel. We did a number of shots with and without a flash gun - in the end I shot:</span></div><div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >1600 ISO</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >40 Shutter</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >4.0 Aperture</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >This meant the ISO gave me the natural grain I was hoping for. I kept the aperture wide to maintain the beautiful deph of field and the shutter - well, it was getting dark and thank god my new job meant I had a new found steady hand!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >We shot with a shovel, pitch fork and a can of Bud. Perfect!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >Once we knew we had the shots and it became even more evident we were loosing light, we briskly walked down to another set of fields where I wanted the initial " running from Zombies" shots. It was so dark though I had to use my flash - this meant the images had a completely contrasted look compared to the ones taken in the field previously. In the end my flash refused to work any more (I have no idea why...very random) and my camera refused to focus as it was so dark so we packed it in and walked back. Which was quite creepy to say the least.</span></div></div><div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >A jacket potato, a beer for Kerri and a cuppa tea for me later and tada! We have our first sneaky peak of the photoset</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><div><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_C8CMgVsO5pstqQfiHfgOh3OZYZIdTcupry6Yb2eRmm3-TA0aodvYNVzJtKtpgJuKi3-MrlmRoT6JswLt8_LkXAzBF2cJHvbDTkLRmNaNm7qghoq2HhsXpbgKQG7W-wypPui2vYPEfEw/s400/_MG_0895.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5644206624917408594" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px; " /></div><div></div></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >We liked the idea that this amazing woman was living in the middle of nowhere - maybe her parents had been eaten by zombies, and only she knew about this insanity. So she goes out at dusk with her pitchfork and shovel to get ready to kill the zombies and discard of them on her land. No one else knows what she is sacrificing for the rest of the village - or do they?</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >
<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" >I hope you like my new set of images. I really enjoyed shooting Kerri, it's always a pleasure!</span></div></div>Nandi - Nitemare Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03435332860871205316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3316004253596470852.post-60614855599360461352011-02-06T13:33:00.000-08:002011-02-06T13:45:10.007-08:00Portraits<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://nitemarephoto.jalbum.net/Nitemare-Photography/slides/web.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 514px; height: 384px;" src="http://nitemarephoto.jalbum.net/Nitemare-Photography/slides/web.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8M92lIoRmMl3avJ1bOvtIhnmVqce8BkcUruyBifNjKz6CBZJl_b6CNza_nYam1TsKokVk8ee88Nbin_l_gUN_KcPq__FetY5h2pMg3zkbobc5ZI-FeK4UsQgVEqb2YGPvU6lkbPliL6I/s1600/web.jpg"><br /></a><br /><br /><br />Heres the starter image from my most recent shoot with my friend, model and photographer Becky.<br />I wanted to develop some images that were based on expression, where make-up and styling is made simple so the model has to speak for themselves through expressions.<br /><br />I chose Becky as a model as her eyes are so big! It meant that she could really show emotion through them, even though she hasn't done anything like this before. To get the expressions we really had to work together, I made her laugh and shout random things at her, make her ruffle her hair etc to get spontaneous expressions like these!<br /><br />I want these images to show models that this is a great thing to have in your portfolio. If you can show a large amount of different expressions, a potential client might pick you over another model just because of that. People like versatility, I now choose my models for their posing and expressions, especially through the eyes. If you look dead to me then I don't feel that you will gel well with my images. Sometimes when an image is heavily photo shopped or has a lot of attention to detail such as colour, etc.. can carry a model but what REALLY makes an image pop is if your working in unity. And thats what I look for now.<br /><br />These photos were taken in Photoshoot Studio Hire in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. All lighting, editing, styling is done by me.<br /><br />If you are interested in getting something similar or more of a mosaic with many different images, email me nandi@nitemaredesigns.co.uk<br /><br />xNandi - Nitemare Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03435332860871205316noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3316004253596470852.post-68653560451828882542010-12-06T12:45:00.000-08:002010-12-06T12:55:43.136-08:00paco peregrin<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVf4dKsH7bwqUn5KR0Si-JcCKaAUeS79LCklojZ0lHsaI7wgDkiKLrJYshZrjZQf1Araw36mQaC5KB4yZvKcrS_eU39MkD8ANwtV9VlkQeTbruTNQNCETaSAYDgTCrxDhMhl6DxeI82Lg/s400/Paco+peregrin+Alter+ego+wonderland+aya+kato.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 343px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVf4dKsH7bwqUn5KR0Si-JcCKaAUeS79LCklojZ0lHsaI7wgDkiKLrJYshZrjZQf1Araw36mQaC5KB4yZvKcrS_eU39MkD8ANwtV9VlkQeTbruTNQNCETaSAYDgTCrxDhMhl6DxeI82Lg/s400/Paco+peregrin+Alter+ego+wonderland+aya+kato.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-weight: bold; font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size:180%;">www.pacoperegrin.com<br /><span style="font-size:85%;"> </span></span><div style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-weight: normal;font-size:85%;" > </span><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:85%;" >I have to</span><span style="font-weight: bold;font-size:85%;" > show off this amazing photographer i've just found. No pumpkin patches had been found to shoot on, no large pumpkins could be found for props. So we settled for a 500 year old apple orchard which I have shot in a few times before.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">So, Friday night all parties involved were txting each other trying to work out whether it was even worth shooting then as the weather was predicted to be nasty. </span></span><span style="font-style: italic; font-family: arial;font-size:85%;" >Typical British weather.</span><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-family: arial;"> We agreed that we would have to do it another day and left it at that.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">Saturday morning i'm getting ready for work and received a txt saying I could have the day off as holiday. Todays weather was going to be MUCH nicer. So I frantically txted around, made sure everyone could come down in a few hours and bish bash bong, sorted. Perfect.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">The girls turned up, we tried a few more farms to see if we could find a pumpkin patch or any pumpkins. No luck. BTW it's out of season and England doesn't really do Halloween on such a large scale as the US, so finding such cool locations was pretty much....never going to happen.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">We had tea, a chat and laugh, got make-up ready, clothes ready and by the time it's ready to go it's dark outside, not fully dark..but defiantly getting there. Being optimistic I though we would at least try and shoot. We parked up and walked for a good 15 minutes down a pitch black muddy path to this location, hoping that my flash gun could save the day.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">We got there and I did a few test shots and just wasn't happy. In fact I was hating it. I didn't want to shoot it in such bad conditions as A) how can I even focus the lens and B) my flash flattened everything and made Anna look like some weird ghost.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">So after much reluctant conversation we decided to head back to mine and shoot in the morning. Well, that didn't work because Rich was doing a pod cast, so I drove the girls back to London, stayed at Anna's and decided studio was the only way forward.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">We slept over and in the morning started preparing. I was quite worried, in fact feeling quite nervously sick as I didn't feel inspired - I couldn't let the girls down AGAIN. Argh! So myself and Stacey (</span><a style="font-family: arial;" href="http://www.sampleremix.co.uk/">Sample Remix</a><span style="font-family: arial;">) flicked through a few magazines and BANG. Inspiration! Yay! Anna's house is full of amazing odysseys and I just didn't think to even bloody use it!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: arial;">So we conjured this bad boy up:</span><a style="font-family: arial;" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGUG_tnIF4SUn-jYNFOxWn_DUMeMnoFX3P1FS1Qxhx4OuFq_dNAD-dZStJuKeMGUj71gkHVrukzF6H0hD2XcjIbzNm6AhoMtqBaLKEMaOs9HFCqYKEbqnjPh-pvCE02JFXQ89UDicJo_0/s1600/40727_10150328008440570_503935569_15664560_5173234_n.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 238px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGUG_tnIF4SUn-jYNFOxWn_DUMeMnoFX3P1FS1Qxhx4OuFq_dNAD-dZStJuKeMGUj71gkHVrukzF6H0hD2XcjIbzNm6AhoMtqBaLKEMaOs9HFCqYKEbqnjPh-pvCE02JFXQ89UDicJo_0/s320/40727_10150328008440570_503935569_15664560_5173234_n.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539518878932712066" border="0" /></a></span><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And from there the shoot commenced going for a completely opposite style that I was expecting. My only criticism is that the menu is so complicated it feels like it just is for the sake of it. The mark I has a really simple system that I have become familiar with.</span> <span style="font-family:arial;">The quality is undeniable. It is awesome. It picks up every little fine hair on a persons face, perfect for fine art portraiture.<br /><br />The colours are wicked, and the contrast is just so beautiful. I know 99% is down to what ISO/apeture/shutter you use, but it just feels like it handels extreme sunlight better than the old one.</span> <br /><br /><span style="font-family:arial;">I would seriously consider trading in my old body for a new one, until I tried to access the RAW files on CS3....disaster. Because the Mark II was build just after they finished the programming for CS3, it means you have to purchase CS4 or an add on for your photoshop. Alternatively you can just convert it to a DNG (digital negative) and it will work just the same as a RAW file in PS.</span></span>Nandi - Nitemare Photographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03435332860871205316noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3316004253596470852.post-87430157968571363822010-04-11T09:37:00.001-07:002010-04-11T09:39:03.144-07:00New blog!<span style="font-size:78%;"><span style="font-family: arial;font-size:85%;" >I decided that I needed a blog for all things photography.
